So today was a day for backsliding. Chocolate and cheese crackers. I was doing really good on so far. I admit that I do not feel as though my 'cravings' have gone away. I own up to what I did and tomorrow is a new day. Monday will technically be the start of Phase 2 for me. That's two days away so I do not think that I completely undid all the good that I have done. This just means that I will have to work harder in the weeks to come. It would be nice to be below 200 pounds by my birthday. That's 30 pounds in roughly 3 1/2 months. I believe that is a reasonable goal.
The chocolate gave me pleasure while the cheese crackers were just a filling. I've realized that I do snack on things when I'm bored. I've also realized that I'm an inherently lazy person when it comes to exercise. People always say that it is mind over matter but I just don't believe it.
I've often thought that if I had a gym partner I would be more motivated to go. I don't even know if that would help. What about you out there? What is it that motivates you to go to the gym? The one class that I want to love has poor instructors so I don't really want to go.
Argggggggg......

mmmmmmmmmmm cheese
I LOVE cheese. I put cheese in my eggs in the morning, and I have it as part of my snacks throughout the day. I could probably eat cheese 24/7. But I don't. I do have some measure of self control.
While I enjoy cheese there are some cheeses that I'm not no fond of. Sorry swiss, and gouda. Oh but mozzarella, and cheddar, along with provolone are some of my favorites. I love the Sargento's 4 cheese reduced fat mexican blend.
Recently I discovered how tasty Velveeta can be. I tried a recipe of the SB website for Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup. It was so creamy and delicious that it only lasted two days. It is something that will be made again.
SB does caution against too much cheese as it can stall weight loss and/or cause gastric distress. So far so good.

Trial and Error
Dr. Agatston, the creator of the South Beach Diet, did say that there would be some trial and error along the way to see what satisfied you and what didn't.
With that said I definitely experienced the 'error' today. First off I did not eat enough for breakfast which set me up for a doomed day from the get go. I ended up eating both my snacks super early. When lunch rolled around I was hungry once more thinking that what I had brought would 'fill' me. Nope, wrong again. Here it is after lunch and I am HUNGRY. Is it cravings? I don't think so and of coarse both of my snacks are gone. I tried drinking water and that didn't help. I solicited encouragement from friends to make it through the day but, alas I raided the snack box anyways. After 2 Quaker snack bars and a string cheese I was somewhat satisfied.
What to have for dinner... I found a SB friendly recipe for cheddar broccoli soup. That I must say was quite tasty and after two bowls I am good to go. My after dinner snack was a chocolate mint sugar free pudding. For being sugar free it was not bad. I think that the mint helps to eliminate the sucolose aftertaste.
Tomorrow is another day and I hope that I have packed enough breakfast, lunch, and snacks (yes, I try to put my lunch together the night before) so that I do not have the hunger that I had today.
Wish me all success!

Day 1 (Officially)
This is it. The first day of the rest of my life. Boy, doesn't that sound cheesy. I realized something as I got up this morning and was headed downstairs for breakfast. No longer can I grab a bowl of cereal or a slice of bread and just have that. I actually have to make something. And, what I made was pretty tasty - scrambled eggs with turkey and cheese. The plan for today is to make some quiche cups to go so I can have breakfast during the week. When one has to be at work at 6:30 am there is no time to make yourself breakfast. At least the cats are easy to feed.
Found out today that eating out is not as easy as it should be. I was hungry and the closest thing to me was a Boston Market. I went with the South Western Chicken Salad which had some 'bad' items in it such as corn and tortilla chips. I was proud of myself for picking it all out and eating only the chicken and the greens. The people at BM must have thought I was crazy. Oh well. I also was very good in not eating there corn bread. I don't think I missed it that much to tell the truth.
Dinner tonight was Walnut Chicken StirFry. It was pretty darn tasty. Granted I had to go to two grocery stores in order to find walnut oil. That stuff is expensive. *sigh* It did make some good stir fry though.
Hmmmmm wonder what I am going to have for breakfast... I guess this means I should make something tonight...
Stats: Day 1 and 237 lbs

How Hard Can It Be?
The question that is always asked. How hard can something really be. One won't know until on tries. Right? Tired of being chastised by my doctor for my weight and for my general health I have set a goal for myself to become healthier and the lose a pound or two. I have decided not to set resolutions for the new year because, lets face it, they usually get broken by Jan 3 anyways. Instead, I have decided to set a goal and that goal is to become healthier and lighter throughout the year.
My momma is my role model. If she can put her mind to it then surely I can too. I know that I will face temptations and that people will try to derail me (hell I may try to derail myself) even if they don't mean to.
For those of you who don't know, the South Beach Diet is a way of eating so that you combine the right foods so that you feel full and are satisfied throughout the day. The hardest and most strictest part of this is are the first two weeks. This is the 'detox' period in which you are ridding your body of the cravings it has for sugar and carbs. Hmmmm no sugar or bread for the next two weeks. YIKES! I have determined that I can live on bread alone. MMMMMMMMM bread...
I've created this blog to give me an outlet while on this adventurous journey. I hope that it brings more successes than setbacks. With that said...Let the journey begin!
